Longing for a peaceful night’s sleep? Blue Zircon may help!

From the desk of our Gemologist

Let me guess; One of your favorite things to do on a cold winter night is to snuggle up by the fire in a warm blanket, with a warm cup of hot cocoa admiring December’s birthstone, blue zircon! The cool blue of zircon pairs perfectly with the pure white of the snow falling outside.

There are many colors to the zircon family, the most famous being blue. Back in the middle ages, zircon was believed to promote a peaceful night’s sleep. I know we can all use some more of that. Zircon is found in Sri Lanka, Australia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Blue zircon ranks 6.5-7 on the MOHS scale. Most zircons are heat treated to get the beautiful colors. Wear your zircons with care. Clean with a soft toothbrush and warm, soapy water. Take your jewelry in to your jeweler every 6-12 months to ensure your jewelry lasts a lifetime!
