Swierenga Jewelers is extremely proud to have served the Caledonia and Grand Rapids community for seventy years! As we celebrate our anniversary, it is amazing to think of all the high-quality jewelry pieces we have sold over the years. The stories of love, friendship, and family are what make the job extra worthwhile; Such as following along an engagement story with tagged photos on Facebook, or customers returning for anniversary milestones and catching up on their lives over the years. Watching our jewelry become family heirlooms, passed down from generations is another meaningful connection with our customer family. We are grateful to the many wonderful people who continue to shop with us and recommend our jewelry to their friends and family—we would not be celebrating this incredible milestone without their patronage and loyalty, and we do not take it for granted.

When Barney Swierenga established Swierenga Jewelers in 1949, he knew within the first year of a booming business that he needed to find reliable help. Hiring a talented young watchmaker named Tunis Vander Lugt created the perfect partnership. Mr. Vander Lugt went on to buy the business but kept the name in honor of its founder. Current owner Tom Vander Lugt grew up in the business and went on to take it over from his father. Tom’s vision and extraordinary gift of craftsmanship have truly made Swierenga Jewelers a local gem.

“Our 70th anniversary is such a meaningful milestone for our family, our team and our business community,” said Tom Vander Lugt. “We constantly strive to provide the highest quality jewelry, selection and personal service to our customers. We’re an extension of our customers and without their continued support, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
