What's the difference?
Both are real diamonds. Mined diamonds are naturaly occuring and crystalize when carbon atoms bond together under intense heat and pressure. Lab diamonds are formed in much the same way only under controlled conditions in a scientific environment.
Is one better than the other?
No. Both are physically, atomically, and optically the same. Both undergo the same processes of cutting and faceting to create beautiful gems.
Why choose one over the other?
There is no right or wrong answer. Mined diamonds have always had a special allure. A high quality mined diamond is both rare and beautiful and has been made by nature with no outside involvement. Lab diamonds are equally beautiful and are a stunning example of modern technology and ingenuity.
Is there a difference in cost?
Yes….. mined diamonds are much rarer and much more costly to obtain. A naturally occurring diamond may take centuries (or longer) to crystallize and then it still needs to be “discovered”. Therefore they are more valuable and always will be. Lab created diamonds can be crystallized in a much shorter period of time – as little as several weeks to several months – and the process is repeatable. Therefore lab diamonds cost a fraction of their mined counterparts.
